What is Ayurveda?
Apr 18, 2024What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda comes Sanskrit words "ayur," meaning life, and "veda," meaning knowledge or science. So, Ayurveda can be translated as the "science of life" or the "knowledge of life."
Did you know that Ayurveda is also know as the sister science of Yoga?
This holistic system of medicine of India focuses on achieving a balance between the body, mind, and spirit to promote overall health and well-being. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of maintaining a harmonious balance between the three doshas, which are biological energies that govern all physiological and psychological functions in the body. The three doshas are Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (earth and water).
Ayurveda uses therapies such as diet and nutrition, yoga, meditation, massage, detoxification, herbs, and lifestyle recommendations tailored to an individual's unique constitution or dosha imbalance. The goal of Ayurveda is not only to treat diseases but also to prevent illness by promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Celebrities using Ayurveda
In the USA, Ayurveda is peaking the interest of many people including celebrities. In an episode in "Keeping up with the Kardashians" Kourtney Kardashian enlists the help of a Ayurveda practitioner to help her and partner Travis Baker to optimize their fertility.
Now that you have an idea of what Ayurveda is, the next question is how can it help you optimize your fertility and increases your chances of having a healthy baby. In future posts I will be writing about this exact topic.
